Acceptance is the Key to Change | NaturalNews.com

(NaturalNews) Most are familiar with the Serenity Prayer of Alcoholics Anonymous, presumably written by Reinhold Niebuhr in the mid twentieth century. Shortly after the adoption of the Serenity Prayer, another important observation was brought to light. Elizabeth Kubler-Ross developed the understanding of the grief process in her work On Death and Dying toward the latter half of the century. Dr. Kubler-Ross spelled out the five stages which occur during the process of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression and Acceptance. In fact, these stages occur during any change which is unwelcome. The person going through this process is already experiencing change. Acceptance is an integral part of this process.

No significant change takes place apart from Acceptance...

Upon consideration, one may think that it would be unhealthy to go around accepting everything. Indeed, some situations require change by definition. However, this judgment is based upon a misperception of Acceptance. The fact is, no significant, progressive change can take place without Acceptance. Any change that is forced, manipulated or otherwise conjured up in the absence of true Acceptance may only be partial and temporary, and often creates more Negativity. Positive change requires complete recognition of Truth and one`s necessary response in order to have complete effect.

Acceptance is not acquiescence; it goes hand in hand with Courage...

The reason Acceptance is a Virtue is because it requires daily application. If one reacts from the experiences of the past, he may be doomed to repeat its failures. If one attempts to force change, or becomes anxious regarding the future, Negative Energy will ensue. Acceptance takes life as it is right now. It does not resist consequences, outcomes or results from the past. However, it does acknowledge alterations that need to be made, ownership that needs to be taken.

Acceptance is more akin to facing Truth than it is to tolerating an unpleasant reality. It is Acceptance`s relationship with Truth that provides the necessary impetus for change. It is also this relationship which requires the virtue Courage in order to effect the necessary change.

For example, one who is in an abusive relationship must accept the truth that her life is possibly in danger. However, this is only one aspect of Truth. Another aspect of Truth may be the victim`s own contribution to her situation as the result of upbringing and a co-dependency on the abuser. The continued practice of Acceptance will lead to Serenity. One will soon realize that the art of living is not so much about figuring out what to do as it is in accepting life's situations and one's own resources and in embracing Courage in order to move forward.

Absence of Acceptance creates complexity and anxiety...

Change that is produced by force or manipulation and is based on deception or misperception will produce negative results. Many of the technological advances we have made are now producing negative consequences. Our foods no longer have the necessary nutrients we need to remain healthy. Children do not spend enough time outside and consequently have a deficit in vitamin D resulting in obesity, depression and a host of other illnesses. Unwillingness to embrace simplicity opens the door to Negativity.

More often than not, the solution to our problems is to apply Acceptance and embrace the simple, complete Truth. Wisdom often comes once Acceptance has been fully embraced. It is then that Courage may be needed to address the obvious.

The Choice of the Lost Generation: A Palindrome

A palindrome reads the same backwards as forward. This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward. Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite. This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant. Make sure you read as well as listen…forward and backward.

This is a video that was submitted in a contest by a 20-year old. The contest was titled "u @ 50" by AARP. This video won second place. When they showed it, everyone in the room was awe-struck and broke into spontaneous applause. So simple and yet so brilliant. Take a minute and watch it.

I have family members that were involved at many levels in regards to the 'testing' on civilizations. Telling parents that they are helpful and later disclosing that it was for government experiments.

1931
Germany issues "Regulation on New Therapy and Experimentation" while 75 children die in Lubeck, Germany from pediatrician's experiment with tuberculosis vaccine.

In America, Dr. Cornelius Rhoads, under the auspices of the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Investigations, infects human subjects with cancer cells. He later goes on to establish the U.S. Army Biological Warfare facilities in Maryland, Utah, and Panama, and is named to the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. While there, he begins a series of radiation exposure experiments on American soldiers and civilian hospital patients.

1932
The Tuskegee Syphilis Study begins. 200 black men diagnosed with syphilis are never told of their illness, are denied treatment, and instead are used as human guinea pigs in order to follow the progression and symptoms of the disease. They all subsequently die from syphilis, their families never told that they could have been treated.

1935
The Pellagra Incident. After millions of individuals die from Pellagra over a span of two decades, the U.S. Public Health Service finally acts to stem the disease. The director of the agency admits it had known for at least 20 years that Pellagra is caused by a niacin deficiency but failed to act since most of the deaths occurred within poverty-stricken black populations.

1938
Japanese immunologist Ishii Shiro ("Dr. Ishii") conducts experiments with anthrax and cholera on Chinese prisoners in Harbin.

1939
Third Reich orders births of all twins be registered with Public Health Offices for purpose of genetic research.

1939-1945
Unit 731. Dr Ishii begins "field tests" of germ warfare and vivisection experiments on thousands of Chinese soldiers and civilians. Chinese people who rebelled against the Japanese occupation were arrested and sent to Pingfan where they became human guinea pigs; there is evidence that some Russian prisoners were also victims of medical atrocities. "I cut him open from the chest to the stomach and he screamed terribly and his face was all twisted in agony. He made this unimaginable sound, he was screaming so horribly. But then finally he stopped. This was all in a day's work for the surgeons, but it really left an impression on me because it was my first time." These prisoners were called 'maruta' (literally 'logs') by the Japanese. After succumbing to induced diseases — including bubonic plague, cholera, anthrax — the prisoners were usually dissected while still alive, their bodies then cremated within the compound. Tens of thousands died. The atrocities were committed by some of Japan’s most distinguished doctors recruited by Dr. Ishii.

1940
Four hundred prisoners in Chicago are infected with Malaria in order to study the effects of new and experimental drugs to combat the disease. Nazi doctors later on trial at Nuremberg will cite this American study to defend their own actions during the Holocaust.

Chemical Warfare Services begins mustard gas experiments on approximately 4,000 servicemen. The experiments continue until 1945 and made use of Seventh Day Adventists who chose to become human guinea pigs rather than serve on active duty.

U.S. Navy uses human subjects to test gas masks and clothing. Individuals were locked in a gas chamber and exposed to mustard gas and lewisite.

1944-1946
University of Chicago Medical School professor Dr. Alf Alving conducts malaria experiments on more than 400 Illinois prisoners.

1945
Manhattan Project injection of plutonium into three patients at Billings Hospital at University of Chicago.

Malaria experiment on 800 prisoners in Atlanta.

Project Paperclip is initiated. The U.S. State Department, Army intelligence, and the CIA recruit Nazi scientists and offer them immunity and secret identities in exchange for work on top secret government projects in the United States.

"Program F" is implemented by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). This is the most extensive U.S. study of the health effects of fluoride, which was the key chemical component in atomic bomb production. One of the most toxic chemicals known to man, fluoride, it is found, causes marked adverse effects to the central nervous system but much of the information is squelched in the name of national security because of fear that lawsuits would undermine full-scale production of atomic bombs.

U.S. secret deal with Ishii and Unit 731 leaders cover up of germ warfare data based on human experimentation in exchange for immunity from war-crimes prosecution. A top-secret U.S. Army Far East Command report on Thompson's findings reads: "The value to the U.S. of Japanese biological weapons data is of such importance to national security as to far outweigh the value accruing from war-crimes prosecution." A 1956 FBI memorandum reveals that by the mid-1950s the U.S. knew everything about Ishii's human experiments but agreed not to prosecute in exchange for Japan's scientific data on germ warfare. (In other words, when it comes to human torture and sacrifice, even of American POW’S, the ends justify the means as far as the U.S. Government is concerned….and, the U.S. Government placed a very high value on knowledge of efficient ways to kill large numbers of people )

Patients in VA hospitals are used as guinea pigs for medical experiments. In order to allay suspicions, the order is given to change the word "experiments" to "investigations" or "observations" whenever reporting a medical study performed in one of the nation's veteran's hospitals.

1946-1974
The Atomic Energy Commission authorized a series of experiments in which radioactive materials are given to individuals in many cases without being informed they were the subject of an experiment, and in some cases without any expectation of a positive benefit to the subjects, who were selected from vulnerable populations such as the poor, elderly, and mentally retarded children (who were fed radioactive oatmeal without the consent of their parents), and also from students at UC-San Francisco. In 1993, the experiments were uncovered and made public. In 1996, the United States settled with the survivors for 4.9 million dollars.

Judgment at Nuremberg Doctors Trial including ten point Nuremberg Code which begins: "The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential."

Colonel E.E. Kirkpatrick of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission issues a secret document (Document 07075001, January 8, 1947) stating that the agency will begin administering intravenous doses of radioactive substances to human subjects.

The CIA begins its study of LSD as a potential weapon for use by American intelligence. Human subjects (both civilian and military) are used with and without their knowledge.

Oak Ridge-sponsored injection of uranium into eleven patients at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

U.S. military releases clouds of zinc cadmium sulfide gas over Winnipeg, St. Louis, Minneapolis, Fort Wayne, the Monocacy River Valley in Maryland, and Leesburg, Virginia. Their intent is to determine how efficiently they could disperse chemical agents.

Joint Army-Navy-CIA experiments are conducted in which tens of thousands of people in New York and San Francisco are exposed to the airborne germs Serratia marcescens and Bacillus glogigii. The germs and chemicals used by the Army and Navy posed known health risks before and during the time of testing. This is documented in scientific studies cited in The Eleventh Plague by Leonard A. Cole and in Cole's previous book, Clouds of Secrecy: The Army's Germ Warfare Tests Over Populated Areas.

CIA initiates Project MKULTRA at eighty institutions on hundreds of subjects. This is an eleven year research program designed to produce and test drugs and biological agents that would be used for mind control and behavior modification. Six of the subprojects involved testing the agents on unwitting human beings.

A declassified CIA document dated 7 Jan 1953[1] describes the experimental creation of multiple personality in two 19-year old girls. "These subjects have clearly demonstrated that they can pass from a fully awake state to a deep H [hypnotic] controlled state by telephone, by receiving written matter, or by the use of code, signal, or words, and that control of those hypnotized can be passed from one individual to another without great difficulty. It has also been shown by experimentation with these girls that they can act as unwilling couriers for information purposes."

NIH supported researcher transplants chimpanzee kidney into human in failed experiment.

Linda MacDonald was a victim of Dr. Ewen Cameron’s destructive mind control experiments in 1963. Dr. Cameron was at various times president of the American, Canadian, and World Psychiatric Associations. He used a "treatment" which involved intensive application of these brainwashing techniques; drug disinhibition, prolonged sleep treatment, and prolonged isolation, combined with ECT [Electro Convulsive Therapy] treatments. The amount of electricity introduced into Linda’s brain exceeded by 76.5 times the maximum amount recommended. Dr. Cameron’s technique resulted in permanent and complete amnesia. To this day, Linda is unable to remember anything from her birth to 1963. As recorded by nurses in her chart, she didn’t know her name and didn’t recognize her children. She couldn’t read, drive, or use a toilet. Not only did she not know her husband, she didn’t even know what a husband was. A class action suit against the CIA for Dr. Cameron’s MKULTRA experiments was settled out of court for $750,000, divided among eight plaintiffs in 1988.

University of Pennsylvania under contract with Dow Chemical conducts dioxin experiments: prisoners at the Holmesburg State Prison in Philadelphia are subjected to dioxin, the highly toxic chemical component of Agent Orange used in Viet Nam. The men are later studied for development of cancer, which indicates that Agent Orange had been a suspected carcinogen all along.

Funding for the synthetic biological agent is obtained under H.R. 15090. The project, under the supervision of the CIA, is carried out by the Special Operations Division at Fort Detrick, the army's top secret biological weapons facility. Speculation is raised that molecular biology techniques are used to produce AIDS-like retroviruses.

United States intensifies its development of "ethnic weapons" (Military Review, Nov., 1970), designed to selectively target and eliminate specific ethnic groups who are susceptible due to genetic differences and variations in DNA.

Dr. Zimbardo conducts Psychology of Prison Life experiment on students at Stanford University.

National Research Act establishes National Commission for the Protection of Human Subjects and upgrades OPRR Policies to Regulations to be known as "The Common Rule."

The virus section of Fort Detrick's Center for Biological Warfare Research is renamed the Fredrick Cancer Research Facilities and placed under the supervision of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) . It is here that a special virus cancer program is initiated by the U.S. Navy, purportedly to develop cancer-causing viruses. It is also here that retrovirologists isolate a virus to which no immunity exists. It is later named HTLV (Human T-cell Leukemia Virus).

HHS promulgates Title 45 of Federal Regulations titled "Protection of Human Subjects," requiring appointment and utilization of IRBs.

1976
National Urban league holds National Conference on Human Experimentation, announcing "We don't want to kill science but we don't want science to kill, mangle and abuse us."

1977
Senate hearings on Health and Scientific Research confirm that 239 populated areas had been contaminated with biological agents between 1949 and 1969. Some of the areas included San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Key West, Panama City, Minneapolis, and St. Louis.

Learning Respect

Teaching Children Respect

Children are mirrors; they reflect back to us everything we say and do. We now know that 95% of everything children learn, they learn from what is modeled for them. Only 5% of all they learn is from direct instruction. Human beings are like tape recorders. Every word we hear, everything we experience, is permanently recorded in our subconscious. Whenever adults speak, we are being role models for the children in our presence. What we speak is what we teach. Children record every word we ever say to them or in front of them. The language children grow up hearing is the language they will speak.

We often make the mistake of thinking that since children are smaller than we are and have less information and experience than we do, that they don't have all the same feelings we do. But they do. The same kind of treatment that would embarrass, humiliate or hurt us, embarrasses, humiliates and hurts children. When human beings are being hurt emotionally, our thinking shuts down. When our thinking is shut down we cannot learn, we can only record. When adults try to "teach" children by criticizing, lecturing, shaming, ridiculing, giving orders, screaming, threatening and hitting, it shuts down their thinking so they can't learn what the adult intended to teach them to do or not to do; they can only record what is being modeled.

The most common criticism I hear of young people these days is, "They don't treat anyone or anything with respect." Ironically, adults often try to teach children to be respectful by treating them disrespectfully. Children learn respect or disrespect from how we treat them and how we treat each other. When children live with disrespect, they learn disrespect. We can teach respect only by modeling treating each other with respect and by giving children the same respect we expect. When children live with disrespect, they learn disrespect.

Since children have long been treated as second class citizens, as "less than," most adults carry "recordings" of disrespect we recorded when we were children. When children's behavior challenges us, it pushes our recording's play button and we find ourselves saying the very things that were said to us as children. Has any parent not had the experience of hearing their parents' words coming out of their own mouths now that they are parents? Most disrespectful responses are so automatic, we have already said them before we even realize what we've said.

Learning to treat children with respect will require a change of heart, that can come only from a major shift in consciousness of how we view children and how we define respect. Children are born with human dignity. To treat a person with respect is to acknowledge and preserve their human dignity. To treat a person with disrespect is to attack their human dignity.

Treating children disrespectfully is like using physical punishment as discipline; it only "works" as long as we are bigger than they are. It behooves every adult who wants to be treated with respect to treat children respectfully. Whether children grow up under our roof or not, they live in the same world we do and their behavior can and does impact our lives. However we treat the child, the child will treat the world.

How can we expect children to understand and practice the Golden Rule if we treat them with less respect than we give our peers? In saying that children deserve the same respect we would give our friends, I am not saying we should treat children like adults or that we should never get angry. I'm saying that there is nothing we ever have to say to a child that we need to say in a disrespectful way.

Would I say those words to my good friend?
Screaming at, belittling, embarrassing and humiliating children is disrespectful. If we question whether or not something we have said to a child is disrespectful, we can ask ourselves, "Would I say those words, in that tone of voice, to my good friend?" If not, it was probably disrespectful. When we model disrespect, we must then model apologizing.
If we are sincere about teaching respect to children we must expose, acknowledge, and work on eliminating all the ways that we model disrespect. Even if we do not model the blatantly disrespectful behaviors of criticizing, lecturing, shaming, ridiculing, giving orders, screaming, threatening and hitting, there are many things we do and say to children, that have been said and done to children for so long, we aren't even aware that they are disrespectful. Yet, if these same things were said or done to us we would identify them as disrespectful.


In my parenting class on treating children with respect, we read a brilliant piece by Erma Bombeck, titled ,"Treat Friends, Kids The Same." She imagines having friends over for dinner and saying to them all those things that most of us heard growing up and therefore, say to children. "Shut the door. Were you born in a barn?" "I didn't work over a hot stove all day to have you nibble like some bird." "Sit up straight or your spine will grow that way." Most parents roar with laughter at the thought of speaking to their friends that way, then realize it is just as disrespectful to say those things to children.

We don't say, "What do you say?" or "What's the magic word?" to our friends but children hear it all the time. If we expect children to always say please and thank you, we must always say please and thank you to them and to each other, otherwise we are modeling that sometimes you say it and sometimes you don't. Children imitate what we do. If we expect children to have manners, to share, to apologize, to be honest, kind, respectful, and loving, we must do and be those things so they will have that model to imitate.

Children imitate parents, family members, friends, caregivers, teachers, and television. The more children are out in the world, the more models they will be exposed to. While we can't keep children from ever seeing models of the kind of behavior we don't want them to imitate, we can be more selective of what models we expose them to, especially television. Since parents are the primary models in the early years, we must work on modeling the behavior we expect and not modeling behavior we don't want to see in them.

The ancient wisdom "What goes around, comes around," and, "As you sow, so shall you reap," applies to how we teach children. To move from the disrespectful way of teaching through criticizing, lecturing and giving orders, to teaching children through conscious, intentional modeling, takes time and practice and a willingness to look at and sometimes change our own behavior. Gandhi said, "We must become the change we want to see in the world." Joseph Chilton Pearce says, "We must become the people we want our children to be." Everything we say will be recorded and imitated.


Most of the disrespectful things we say and do to children aren't even intentional. Our old "tapes" just automatically play when our buttons get pushed. Learning to teach respect by intentional modeling is simple; it's unlearning the old ways that is difficult. When a child doesn't behave in the ways we expect, we must ask ourselves, "Am I providing a model of the behavior I am expecting of my child?" When a child behaves in a way that we don't like, we must ask ourselves, "Am I modeling that behavior?" If we can honestly answer, "No," then something else is causing the behavior.

We can train ourselves to stop and think before we speak, by remembering that everything we say will be recorded and imitated. We can stop or at least interrupt those old recordings and intentionally model the kind of behavior we expect and will accept from our children. When we give children the same respect we expect, we teach children respect. How we treat them is what we teach them.
